2021 Stories of Stoke: Mentor Highlight: Shara Narsipur
Introducing Shara Narsipur: Hanai Mentor Group Leader
My name is Shara Narsipur – I’m an ocean loving girl. I work in ocean sustainability for a sustainable seafood company and run a platform that writes about all kinds of ocean health topics called Eat Blue (https://www.eat.blue). I enjoy surfing, diving, climbing and being outdoors. I also love music and dancing, playing the bass & piano. When I get the chance, I also sketch with charcoal and have recently gotten into painting. All around I would consider myself “a creative”!
I got involved with US4K through a dear friend and surfing buddy, Eli Etzioni. Eli and I co-lead a Hanai group in 2018 and even though he had to move out of San Diego, I’ve loved Hanai and stuck with it since then!
This will be my third year with US4K.
Surfing with the kids is just pure joy! Everyone puts down their guard and just enjoys the magic of being in the water. Its so beautiful to watch the kids smile when they ride a wave. Makes it all worthwhile. The surfing events are always my favorite
Every season I’ve learned so much from the kids. Spending time with them is so rewarding and forming that bond with them truly feels like the most unique relationship/friendship.
This is such an amazing opportunity to build a bond with young kids who don’t have consistent mentors in their lives. You will learn so much from them, and, at least for me, I feel that this experience has opened my eyes to the power of nature and activity to build strong bonds and fun memories!
