Urban Surf 4 Kids Hanai Mentorship Program is a 7-month group mentorship program that connects groups of foster, at-risk, and adopted youth with small groups of trauma trained and background checked volunteers. These outings typically take place outdoors, are active, often water-based, and always on a weekend. This program was created to introduce youth to positive role models, while simultaneously giving them the opportunity to experience recreational activities.

Past outings have consisted of kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, hiking, sailing, boating, indoor trampoline parks, rock climbing, roller skating, and more. Outings typically last 3-5 hours and always conclude with lunch. We strive for 10 mentors and 10 participants in each group.

Please be advised that this program requires a commitment from everyone; We expect all volunteers and participants to attend most, if not all, of the outings. If your child is unable to consistently attend, their spot in the program will be given away. With a long waitlist of families who want our services and mentors who dedicate time on their weekends to spend with our kids, we emphasize that consistency and dependability is needed from everyone involved in this program. As a caregiver, it is your responsibility to ensure that your youth is able to attend all outings. If your child is returning from 2023 and has missed 3 or more outings during the previous season, they will not be given priority for this program. If a lack of transportation is the only reason your child was or would be unable to join this program consistently, please reach out to roxanne@us4k.org.

If you are a returning family, please note that both you and your child are required to complete our 2023 post-season survey to be accepted into the 2024 program.

Please note that caregivers of youth who are on the autism spectrum are required to be present at all outings. Caregivers are welcome to participate in activities, but are not required to. Lunch will be provided for those who are required to attend.
