In-Water Safety Lead
Silas Black is the In-Water Safety Lead for Urban Surf 4 Kids and first connected with the organization after attending a Surf Therapy Camp at La Jolla Shores with his friend, who was one of the volunteer mentors. Inspired by the experience and the impact of the program, Silas joined the US4K Ohana to support water safety and first aid efforts. Currently working in EMS, he brings years of experience as a surf, swim, and junior lifeguard instructor, roles he has held since his teenage years. He is passionate about creating a safe and welcoming environment where children from all backgrounds can build confidence and connection in the ocean.
As part of Urban Surf 4 Kids, Silas’ goal is to help youth develop a love and respect for the ocean, much like the mentors and family members who introduced him to the water when he was younger. Outside of volunteering, he enjoys spending his free time at the beach with friends, surfboards, and plenty of snacks.
