IN-WATER SAFETY LEADER/LIFEGUARD
Hours & Compensation:
Temporary Seasonal part-time hourly $20 per hour
4-6 surf camps June – October 2023

Position Summary:
This position reports to the Executive Director and supports the program department with
special event logistics, equipment maintenance, and event set-up/tear down. Most support and
event activities are held outside on the beach, in public settings and/or near bodies of water.
This position will also be responsible for providing water safety, guidance and life-guard duties
during surf camps and provide on-land surf instruction training to volunteers / athletes.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Provide on-land surf instruction at surf camps located in San Diego County.
2. Provide lifeguard support in the ocean during surf sessions.
3. Assist and support program related needs during surf camps when not in the water.
4. Load and unload event equipment as needed to programs.
5. Assist in the maintenance of rinse/cleaning boards and wetsuits.
6. Misc support
Education / Training:
1. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
2. First Aid / CPR Certification
3. Valid Driver’s License
4. Clean Driving Record with DMV printout
5. Must have reliable transportation.
6. Fingerprint Background Check
7. Ability to lift, squat, walk, bend, and carry 50+ pounds of equipment.
8. Ocean life-guard certification
9. Experience with surf instruction
10. Compassion for working with children overcoming trauma.
11. Mandated child abuse reporter certification (upon hire, provided by US4K)
Special Requirements:
Some evening and mostly weekend hours required: Often Friday, Saturday and Sunday, days
vary but most weekends June – October 2023.
