Clayton Wheeler is a San Diego native whose life has been shaped by the Pacific Ocean as much as anything else. Raised in one of the world’s most iconic coastal cities, Clayton found his footing early in the water, and surfing became more than a pastime. It became a lens through which he learned discipline, resilience, and knowing when to commit. Those lessons never left the water.

That same instinct for timing and tenacity carried Clayton into the world of business, where he has spent years building and scaling operations across San Diego. As Co-Founder of Blacktop Restaurant Group, Inc., Clayton has grown a franchise portfolio expanding Board & Brew across San Diego and Orange County. More than a restaurant group, Board & Brew has become a genuine fixture in the communities it serves — supporting local events, causes, and the people who make San Diego home, like Urban Surf 4 Kids.

Clayton’s commitment to community runs deeper than the restaurants. As a board member of Urban Surf 4 Kids, he is helping bring the transformative power of surfing to underserved youth, giving the next generation access to the same ocean that shaped him. He holds a simple belief that surfing is not a luxury. It is a teacher. And every kid in San Diego deserves a shot at that classroom.
