Wet Hop Collaboration: SDBC x US4K
Join us to try out this new beer! >>
San Diego, CA (September 5, 2026) – The San Diego Brewing Co. is collaborating with a local hops farmer, Horsethief Hops, a local hop farm in Japatul Valley, Alpine, California, that donates its fresh harvest each year to support community charity beer projects, on a special project to benefit the lives of local foster children. The Ninth Annual Limited Edition Wet Hops Fundraiser will celebrate the launch of the, “San Diegrown” beer, a labor of love, donated by a local homebrewer, harvested by volunteers, and brewed by the San Diego Brewing Co.
The special beer brunch pairing event will take place on Saturday, September 5th, from 12 PM – 4 PM at the San Diego Brewing Co. located at 10450 Friars Road, San Diego. Urban Surf 4 Kids selects a new brew partnership every year and this year, the wet hops beer is named, “San Diegrown.” This unique collaboration will raise funds for Urban Surf 4 Kids, a local nonprofit that provides surf therapy, mentoring, and life skills for local children living in foster care. Proceeds from the beer will help fund the Hanai Mentoring Program in honor of the 50 volunteer mentors who have dedicated the last seven months to mentoring children ages 7-18 who are living in foster care. The public is invited to join in on this annual celebration.
San Diegrown Wet Hop IPA
6%abv.
Hops- Locally grown Pacific Gem, Rakau, Southern Cross, Columbus and Comet hops(Horsethief Farms, Japatul Valley, Alpine, CA).
Malt Bill- 100% Gambrinus IPA Malt
Bright ripe aromas of tropical fruit, melon, hints of white wine, pineapple and a kiss of berries. The 100% Gambrinus malt gives the beer some sturdy legs to stand on while letting the hops take the lead in this symphony of south pacific inspired local growth. A lower abv at 5.5%, but welcoming, firm bitterness allows us to still consider this an IPA…Session IPA if you like! The Ohana spirit was felt from the hop field(Horsethief Hop Farm) to the picking tables to the kettle to create this beverage that we will celebrate on Saturday, with our growing Ohana. A delicious family force of flavor awaits! Huli Pau! (Cheers!)
Volunteers picked the hops at the farm with Eli from Horsethief Hops, de-bined them at SDBC and the brew process began.

At Urban Surf 4 Kids, we provide opportunities for healing and empowerment through surf therapy, mentorship, and life skills achievement programs for youth in foster and at-risk communities.
We are using the power of surf and Ohana, “our family”, to empower youth who have experienced complex trauma to become independent adults, leaders in the community, and champions for the environment.
With the help of donors, supporters, community and business partners, a legion of volunteers and even our own alumni leaders, we are catching waves and changing lives.
