2023 Stories of Stoke: Meet Shara, 2023 Hanai Co-Lead!
Hello! I’m Shara and I’ve been volunteering with US4K for 4 years! I was introduced through a good friend who worked for Urban and who brought me to one of the surf camps and eventually co-led the first Hanai group with me. I loved the addictive energy of the kids and I have been doing Hanai ever since. In my spare time, I like to read, knit, and do yoga, go climbing, surfing and diving!
Over the years I’ve had many favorite memories with our Hanai groups. During our most recent season, my favorite moment was going hiking with our group. All the kids were so curious about our local trails and asked such amazing questions. After our hike, we went into the visitor center at Mission Trails where the kids learned about our native plants and local ecosystems. It’s such a wholesome and uplifting experience to watch them learn about our environment so passionately!
After 4 seasons, I cannot imagine my life without the Hanai program. I’ve watched so many of these kiddos grow into such intelligent and charismatic youth and my relationships with them are something I will always cherish. Thank you US4k for supporting this incredible program and all the passion and effort you put into helping create beautiful memories for these foster youth!
